Advocate, Speaker and Educator for those who learn differently
Welcome, and I am so excited you are here to learn more how to create connections and knock down barriers for those with learning disabilities. I am a speaker, advocate, educator, and author on the topic of raising children with learning disabilities and special needs. Four of my five children have learning disabilities, and I myself am dyslexic. I get it. I've been there, and I want to help parents, students, and educators get on the same page to best serve children with learning disabilities.
Creating bridges between educators and parents
We all want what is best for the children, but resource limitations, expectations, miss communication and misconceptions can be stumbling blocks to educating and providing the best opportunities for children who have learning disabilities. While parents passionately try to advocate for their children, teachers may feel threatened or stretched to the max. Jan wants to challenge you to change your approach and attitude, both for the parent and the educator. Turn those roadblocks into opportunities to collaborate and learn from each other to better serve children. Invite Jan to speak at your next PTA meeting or school function, teacher training workshop, moms' group, faith group or to college students majoring in education. She would love to share a bit of her story, and how to help go from barriers to bridges for children.
A Parent's Guide to Raising Learning Disabled Children
Go deeper with a candid and personal account of a mom raising four children with learning disabilities, who is learning disabled herself. Jan's personal and sometimes painful account of the trials of growing into adulthood and overcoming limitations placed before her is an inspiration and will give hope to any parent struggling to help their child. Her personal experience with her life and that of her four learning disabled children will make you smile, will touch you but will also give you practical instruction on how to handle whatever comes your way!
